Stitching refers to the computer-assisted assembly of several overlapping individual frames into a single, seamless image. The software detects common image features in the overlap regions, aligns the frames geometrically and matches brightness and colour.

Stitching is the foundation of panorama and gigapixel images: instead of a single sensor frame, many partial images are captured at full resolution and combined. Quality depends on precise capture – ideally around the nodal point – and on sufficient overlap.

Errors during capture or assembly can cause visible stitching artefacts.
