Vignetting
Category: Capture
Vignetting denotes the fall-off in brightness from the image centre to the edges. Causes are optical and structural properties of the lens as well as the aperture; the effect is usually strongest at open aperture.
In gigapixel stitching vignetting is critical: left uncorrected, it produces a grid-like brightness pattern at the tile boundaries of the composite. It is therefore compensated before stitching.
